Hugh De Luc just wanted to live a simple life with his wife but that all changed when one day an army of crusaders arrive in their town. Lead by bald shabby looking monk atop a simple mule. The crusaders came looking for new recruits and lured them in with the promise of unimaginable rewards, riches, spoils, and honor. Few men wanted to go even less actually had the nerve to. Hugh was drawn in by the simple monk’s words but he could feel his wife’s hand holding him back.
Day’s later eight knights upon warhorses come to the town looking for those who left with the monk. The knights punish the families of those who followed the monk. Within the next few days Hugh decides to leave and join a crusade as he leaves the town his wife Sophie gives him half of her prized comb along with provisions for his trip.
Hugh and the crusade march staying behind all of the fighting missing out on their chance for honor. Eventually Hugh’s crusade get close to the action they come across a town still burning bodies litter the ground and they slowly discover that it’s what’s left of peters army.
